On the eve of the International Children’s Day, on May 29th, the 21st China Medical Team and the Zimbabwe Chinese Chamber of Commerce’s Love Mommy Group visited the local “Hossana Love in Africa Orphanage and Primary School” in Hatcliffe.

The Medical Team provided emergency medical knowledge training for local orphans and primary school students, donate care packages, and carry out health check-ups and medical treatment.

The children performed local songs and dances in Shona, followed by a Chinese song “Little Swallow” in fluent Chinese, impressing everyone with their beautiful voices.

Following this, the medical team and the Love Mommy Group donated supplies to the children.

Dr. Wen Yan taught the Heimlich first aid maneuver while Dr. Xu Jing and Dr. Zhang Yulong trained the children on CPR using simple language.

Doctors Hu Sha and Xiao Zhiqiang led the students in practicing the Ba Duan Jin exercise, which was well-received. Finally, the medical team conducted detailed check-ups for all the students and established health records.

They provided health education and advice for the health issues identified and would follow up on special cases. The orphanage staff also carefully noted this to jointly safeguard the children’s healthy growth.

The Hossana Love in Africa Children’s Home currently houses a dozen children aged 1-16 years, including children with disabilities and some living with HIV.  All the students at the primary school come from local disadvantaged families.

“So many Chinese people care about us, bringing us health knowledge, check-ups, and daily necessities. I want to say thank you to them,” said a 10-year-old child from the orphanage. “The Chinese medical team not only treats patients in hospitals, but also comes to our orphanage and primary school to care for the children’s health and establish health records, allowing the children to deeply feel the warmth from China,” said orphanage director Miss Sharon excitedly.
