Businessman arrested in bizarre turn of events: From reporting robbery to facing charges

Zim Now Writer

In a puzzling turn of events, Zimbabwean businessman, Clark Makoni finds himself behind bars at Juru Police Station in Goromonzi.

Makoni, involved in real estate and mining, alleges he was apprehended after reporting an attempted robbery, only to be charged with discharging a firearm and threatening someone with a gun.

Makoni’s story centres around a contested mine in Goromonzi and he claims officer commanding police in Harare, Commissioner Wonder Tembo, is orchestrating his ordeal, stemming from this ongoing dispute.

According to Makoni, he was on his way to report an attempted robbery at the mine when a suspicious vehicle began following him. Fearing for his safety, he fired a warning shot to deter the occupants, who he later discovered were connected to the mining dispute.

Makoni describes his attempt to reach the police station, only to be trailed by the suspicious vehicle. When another car blocked his path, he drew his licensed firearm, authorised for cash in transit, and fired a warning shot. Despite this, the occupants did not back down.

Instead of finding assistance, Makoni was arrested by police upon reaching Juru Police Station. The charges against him paint a different picture –  discharging a firearm and threatening someone with it.

The reason behind Makoni’s detention and the contrasting narratives remain unclear. This bizarre turn of events raises questions about the involvement of Commissioner Tembo and the connection to the mining dispute.
