The Indian Women's Association’s fundraising dinner last Saturday at Golden Conifer, Harare was well attended with corporate and individual support.
“.. The funds raised at this dinner will be used to help the underprivileged in Zimbabwe,” said IWA president Mrs Rachna Khanduja who also announced that it was her last event in the role as her husband Ambassador Vijay Khanduja has been reassigned to Cameroon.
IWA which was founded in 2015 with a membership of 50 and growing is headed by the current ambassador’s wife.
Mrs Khanduja said IWA goes beyond just assisting those in need and also raises awareness on their special needs.
IWA core activities include food assistance, repairs and maintenance of homes as well as provision of medical equipment.
The kind women provided much-needed relief during the COVID-19 pandemic and impacts over 600 families each year.
Organisations that have benefitted include Rokpa Support Network, ZIMNAHM, Mothers of Children with Disabilities, St Giles and World Impact Schools.
Mrs Khanduja acknowledged corporate support that has come from organisations like Varun Beverages, Zim Gold, Raha, Glen Removals and others.
Two raffles saw some lucky attendees smile all the way home with prizes like return flights for two to Victoria Falls and dinner vouchers.
Trauma Center owner Dr Vivek Solanki who was acknowledged as an outstanding partner of IWA was in double luck as his tickets were picked in both draws.
He gracefully donated the prizes back to be won by other punters.
Denilson The Saxophonist who has set social media ablaze with his performances on command serenaded the diners.
He proved why he has become so popular as he blew haunting renditions of several romantic classics, much to the delight to the beautiful people who graced the event in their finery.
