ZANU PF political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha has called on party business people to lead by example in embracing the recently introduced ZiG and government policies, warning that businesses using inflated exchange rates will not be saved from prosecution by party affiliation.

“The ZiG will benefit the community and the consumers. It will benefit the business people and will make our economy stronger. So we really must encourage discipline and ethical conduct from everyone, including ZANU PF members. Anyone who is doing it is certainly fighting what the party and leadership of the party are trying to build and must be punished like anyone else,” Said Machacha said.

Machacha was speaking in an interview over the weekend, noting that true party members and supporters should work towards the success of the new gold backed currency and government policies as the positive developments from such policies benefit all.

This comes as hundreds of company accounts have been frozen by the Financial Intelligence Unit for violation of exchange controls.

Government has since introduced penalties for violation of the exchange rate, through Statutory Instrument 81A of 2024, that provides for minimum civic fines of ZiG200 000 for any individual or business found charging goods or services above the RBZ gazetted exchange rate.
