Armed robbers Target Lyton Mine, convicted

Two men, Tafadzwa Kadzingwindi, 26, and Tafadzwa Chiteya, 27, were arraigned before the Kadoma Magistrates court facing robbery charges.

On June 5, 2024, at around 0200hours, the accused persons together with three other accomplices who are still at large proceeded to Lyton Mine in Chegutu armed with two pistols.

Upon arrival, they struck the first complainant Tawanda Tirvangani, manhandled him and tied his hands using a string before force-marching him into a wooden cabin where the second complainant, Cosmas Mupambwa showed them where the carbon room was.

They broke in and took 250 kilograms of “pregnant carbon” belonging to Singari Mine. They also took Tirivangani's US$6 and Mupambwa's sim card and walked away.

On 6 June, 2024, police detectives received information to the effect that the stolen “pregnant carbon” was sent to Armshire Elution Plant.

Acting on the rip-off, the detectives proceeded to Armshire Elution Plant, Chinhoyi where they arrested the two accused persons who were awaiting for the elution proceess to be undertaken.

The total value stolen is US$612 and US$6 426 was recovered.

The accused persons were convicted and remanded in custody awaiting sentence.
