A Harare woman has been taken to court charged with stealing US$107 000 from her Chinese boss.
Allegations are that on May 30, 2024 in Highlands, Harare, Marvelous Mapfumo stole US$107 000 from her boss, Mey Sisi Lin.
The prosecution told the court that after the theft, Mapfumo allegedly shared her loot with two police officers stationed at Central Criminal Bureau, Harare,
The two, Hebert Chikwiza and Paul Kondo who had reportedly promised to protect her, are currently on the run.
Mapfumo was remanded in custody to Monday next week.
Detectives from CID Nkulumane, Bulawayo, on June 12, 2024, received information from three sources that Mapfumo had boarded a truck to South Africa via Botswana.
Acting on the information, they arrested her and brought her back to CID Highlands, Harare, where she implicated Chikwiza and Kondo.
The trio, according to results of further investigations, met at a lodge in Waterfalls, where they allegedly shared the loot.
The two police officers shared US$60 000 between themselves, while Mapfumo got US$47 000.
Chikwiza also took Mapfumo’s share for safe-keeping arguing that he suspected she was being tracked by detectives.
The court heard that Kondo later took Mapfumo to his girlfriend’s house in Sunningdale, ordering her not to talk to anyone while he organised to take her to South Africa to evade arrest.
Rufaro Chonzi represented the State.
