A man from Hatfield, Harare, who allegedly stole a vehicle his brother - a Fresh Kambucha Private Limited Company driver - was using to do deliveries, has been taken to court.
Kelvin Chivambe, 33, appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with theft of a motor vehicle and was remanded in custody.
The complainant in this matter is Archbold Chivambe, 23.
The State alleges that on June 13, at around 0800 hours, Archbold left his company in Graniteside to do deliveries and sales of Kambucha drink, driving a white Toyota Dyna.
He picked Kelvin, his brother, at Number 50 St Andrews Road, Hatfield, Harare and he took him to Domboshava where he was to assist him in off-loading drinks from the vehicle.
It is alleged that on the same date at around 2000 hours, Archbold and Kelvin returned to Harare Central Business District, where Archbold picked his wife.
Archbold, his wife and Kelvin then drove to Chicken Inn at Kelvin Corner, Graniteside, Harare where he wanted to buy food, leaving Kelvin seated in the car with keys inside.
After about 10 minutes, Archbold and his wife came back but found Kelvin and the car missing.
It is alleged that Archbold called Kelvin and he answered the phone stating that he was in Ardbennie.
He called him again and he said he was now along Masocha Ndlovu Way on his way home.
Archbold later hired a taxi and went to Kelvin’s house where he then found him without the car.
Archbold asked him where he had left the car but Kelvin said he did not know what had happened.
The following morning, Archbold and Kelvin moved around the Adbernnie and Graniteside areas trying to locate the car but Kelvin failed to reveal where he had left it.
Archbold then made a report at ZRP Braeside.
Kelvin was arrested and the mater was referred to CID VTS Harare for further management.
Investigations led to the recovery of the car along Simon Mazorodze Road at Mukuwisi River Bridge near Zindoga Shopping Centre, in Waterfalls, Harare where it had been abandoned after it was involved in a road traffic accident.
200 cases of Kambucha drink, two size 18 complete wheels which were on the vehicle were recovered.
A total value of US$17 850 was stolen.
