Born and raised in Zimbabwe, the air thick with the echoes of bouncing footballs, Paradzai Samkeliso Ncube's story is one woven from passion, resilience, and the unwavering love for the beautiful game. This 35-year-old married man's journey, now rooted in the United States with his family, is a testament to the power of dreams taking flight in the face of setbacks.
Ncube's path began on the field, his skills blossoming with every kick. But a cruel twist of fate, an injury that sidelined him from playing, became a pivotal turning point. It wasn't the end, but a new beginning. Refusing to let his passion wane, Ncube transitioned from player to coach, his desire to give back to the community that nurtured his love for the game burning bright.
"An injury fueled the decision to become a coach," Ncube reveals. "I knew I wasn't going to play anymore, so I became a coach as a way to give back to the community."
His playing days weren't simply a memory; they became the foundation of his coaching style. The years spent strategising on the field gifted him a deep understanding of the game's complexities, a wisdom he now imparts to the next generation.
"It helped me understand the game and also different styles of play to implement in games depending on the needs at that moment," Ncube explains.
Ncube's journey then took a daring leap – Europe. Coaching in a foreign land presented a new challenge: the language barrier. Imagine the confusion, the frustration of instructions getting lost in translation! Yet, Ncube's spirit remained undaunted. He persevered, his resourcefulness and work ethic shining through. The language barrier became a hurdle he surmounted, proving that communication finds a way when passion is the driving force.
"One of the challenges I faced in Europe was the language barrier," Ncube admits. "I had to coach in English and the assistant coach would translate to Spanish and it just caused a lot of confusion, but I managed to pull through."
Ncube is a firm believer in building strong foundations. He champions the importance of grassroots development, of nurturing young talent from the very beginning. For him, a systematic approach to talent scouting is crucial in creating world-class players.
"Player development has to start from grassroots level for us to have world class players and as for talent scouting, with proper stages of player development, the job becomes easy to select the best," Ncube emphasises.
Ncube's aspirations are a captivating blend of ambition and pragmatism. He dreams of rubbing shoulders with the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho in the English Premier League. But his feet remain firmly planted on the ground. He's already achieved the impressive feat of coaching in a different country, solidifying his position as Director of Coaching for a Soccer Academy in the US, all while building a life with his family.
"Long term is to one day rub shoulders in the share room with coaches such as Pep and Jose in the EPL, as for coaching in a different country, that goal has already been achieved as I'm currently the Director of Coaching for a Soccer Academy here in the USA where I'm based with my family," Ncube says.
His vision extends beyond the field. Ncube, a dedicated family man, also runs a pig farming business with his wife. But his heart yearns to give back to his roots. He's in the process of starting a foundation to support children in Zimbabwe, the land where his footballing talent first bloomed.
"I run a pig farming business with my wife and we are also in the process of starting a foundation to support kids back home, where my talent developed," Ncube reveals.
For aspiring coaches and players, Ncube's message is simple yet powerful: chase your dreams, work relentlessly, and success will follow. His unique perspective and unwavering dedication are an inspiration, a testament to how love for the game and perseverance can pave the way for incredible achievements. And for Ncube, Pep Guardiola serves as the ultimate role model, a shining example of coaching excellence.
