50% jail time for Zaka rapist

A 30 old man from Chief Nyakuhwa area in Zaka was sentenced yesterday to 60 years of imprisonment atr the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court on 4 counts of rape will only serve 30.

According to National Prosecurity Authority of Zimbabwe, in month of April 2021, the accused person found the complainant (13) who is grade 7 pupil fetching firewood in a bush near homestead. He knocked down the fire wood she was carrying before he raped her. The complainant did not tell anyone.

In 2021, accused person found the complainant at home sweeping the house, he produced the okapi and threatened to kill her .He pushed her on the mattress and raped her.

The complainant informed her aunt who later informed her grandmother about the incident, she then instructed them not to reveal the matter to anyone.

The authority stated that the accused person raped the complainant on two more occasions in August 2021.

In August 2023 the complaint’s mother came from Harare where she resides with the complainant’s father and the complainant confided in her and a police report was made.

According to National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, in September 2021 the accused raped another complainant, 42, when she was on her way back from the borehole. He grabbed her behind, produced an okapi knife , ordered her to choose between life and death before raping her once .

The accused person was sentenced to 15 years on each count of which 30 years were suspended leaving a 30 year effective team.
