A 42-year-old Kezi woman was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for setting her husband ablaze over infidelity issues.
Sindiso Ndlovu was arraigned before Bulawayo High Court accused of killing her husband.
She was convicted by the court and sentenced to 10 years in prison for murder as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal law Act Chapter 9:23.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, on October 19, 2019, Ndlovu set her husband Busani Ncube on fire with the intention of killing him.
The married couple were said to have had a misunderstanding over the husband’s infidelity.
Ndlovu was angry and felt scorned as she asked her husband of his extra-marital affairs. The accused person then locked their bedroom door with them inside and poured petrol on the now-deceased with the intention of burning him.
She then set Ncube alight while he was doused in petrol.
The police were called and the matter was reported leading to the arrest of the accused person.
Her husband sustained burns and injuries and was rushed to Maphisa District Hospital.
They, however, later referred him to United Bulawayo Hospital for further treatment but he succumbed to his injuries and died three months later on January 8, 2020.
Ndlovu was in remand facing attempted murder charges.
Her charges changed to murder when her husband died.
The case was in trial at the High Court for four years resulting in Ndlovu being jailed 10 years for the murder.
