Police have arrested a 29-year-old woman, Kelly Chinaka, from Zengeza in Chitungwiza, for her alleged involvement in a brazen armed robbery earlier this year. The case involves a stolen sum of US$238,000, with only a small portion recovered so far.
Chinaka appeared before Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, who remanded her in custody. The prosecution, led by Tendai Tapi, seeks to merge her case with that of her co-accused, Kennedy Mbundire, Owen Mutera, and Tedious Desmond Munyaradzi Mhungira, who are already behind bars. The magistrate's decision allows for a combined trial for all parties involved.
According to the State prosecutor, Chinaka allegedly conspired with the aforementioned individuals and three others who remain at large. Together, they are accused of threatening security guards with firearms and stealing a significant sum – US$238,000 – from the unnamed complainant.
Despite the arrest, authorities have only managed to recover a mere US$6,500 of the stolen money. The investigation to locate the remaining stolen funds and apprehend the outstanding suspects is likely ongoing.
