New Ziana In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the local community, five individuals have been arraigned before the Norton Magistrates’ Court, facing murder charges in the untimely death of Ruvimbo Kamugwala.
According to the allegations, the tragedy unfolded on July 17, 2024 at Plot 26 in Parl, Selous. Ruvimbo Kamugwala, the now-deceased, was tasked with cleaning the house of the second accused person, Nicola Kadonzvo, 28.
However, a disturbing turn of events occurred when Kadonzvo later discovered that USD100 was missing from her residence.
Kadonzvo is said to have teamed up with the first accused, Gerald Mupandawana Makore, 38,, and the third accused, Judith Mangando, 45,, to interrogate Kamugwala about the missing money. The trio allegedly assaulted the young woman with switches, electric cables, and open-handed blows.
The case took an even more sinister turn when Makore and Kadonzvo sought the assistance of the fourth and fifth accused persons, Tafadzwa Gerald Madzima, 22, and Tavonga Munoda, 21,, who are police officers.
The court heard that the two officers proceeded to assault Kamugwala with a button stick while she was handcuffed.
Despite Kamugwala’s admission that she had stolen the money and given it to a friend, who denied the allegations, the interrogation continued. The court was told that Kamugwala later claimed she had hidden the money at home, but a search yielded no results.
Tragically, the ordeal did not end there. The fourth and fifth accused persons are said to have continued assaulting Kamugwala further before leaving her in the custody of the first, second, and third accused.
The following morning, the first and second accused persons were reportedly in the process of dragging Kamugwala to consult a prophet when she succumbed to her injuries.
The five accused individuals have been remanded in custody until the 1st of August 2024, with the court advising them to apply for bail at the High Court.
