Walter Magaya’s Heart Group has issued a stern warning to the Zimbabwe Football Association , demanding a retraction of statements made by Normalization Committee chairperson Lincoln Mutasa regarding the Heart Stadium. The group is threatening legal action amounting to US$1 million if the retraction is not made.
The controversy erupted after ZIFA said it inspected the stadium, concluding that it lacked proper media rooms and adequate ablution facilities.
Through his lawyer, Admire Rubaya, Magaya vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that ZIFA had never conducted a legitimate inspection of the stadium.
The Heart Group has challenged the football governing body to provide evidence of the inspection.
The letter of demand, dated August 6, 2023, and addressed to ZIFA, states that neither Mutasa nor any representative from the association has visited the Heart Stadium for inspection purposes and therefore Magaya’s camp views these accusations as a malicious attempt to tarnish the reputation of the stadium and its owner.
The standoff between Magaya and ZIFA has added another layer of complexity to the already troubled local football landscape.
