Ngezi Platinum Stars’ debut in the CAF Champions League ended in disappointment on Sunday as they were eliminated by AS Maniema Union in a penalty shootout.

After a goalless draw in the first leg, the Zimbabwean side needed a positive result to advance to the first round. However, despite dominating much of the play, they were unable to break the deadlock.

The match went to penalties, where Ngezi Platinum Stars ultimately fell short. Polite Moyo and Gareth Madhake missed their spot-kicks, while Kudzai Chigwida, Farai Madhanaga, and Tinotenda Musariranwa converted for the Zimbabweans.

AS Maniema Union will now face Petro du Luanda of Angola in the first round of the competition
