A 17-year-old boy from Zimre Park has found himself in hot water after defrauding a group of high school students in Ruwa. The accused, whose name has been withheld for legal reasons, appeared before the Harare Magistrate Court on charges of fraud.

According to court documents, the incident occurred in July 2024 when the boy, posing as a member of the Junior Parliament, approached a group of students at a local high school. He promised them the opportunity to join the Junior Motivates Sadc Parliament, a prestigious program for young people in the region.

To secure their participation, the accused charged each student a fee of $62 for registration and uniforms. He also requested an additional $50 for a camping trip to Domboshava Resort. The unsuspecting students willingly handed over their money, eager to be part of the program.

However, after receiving the payments, the accused vanished without a trace, leaving the students empty-handed and feeling betrayed. The total amount defrauded from the students amounted to a substantial $2,640, and none of the money has been recovered.

The accused was subsequently arrested and brought before the court. He was released into the custody of his guardian and his case has been remanded to September 5, 2024.
