Abusive man threatens to kill fed up wife

A Harare man has threatened his wife and her mother with death if she dares to divorces him.

Elizabeth Simango appeared before the Harare Civil Court saying that her abusive husband Shadreck Simango is refusing to accept that their union is no longer feasible.

"I tried divorcing him years ago and he threatened me, saying he would kill me and my mother if l pursue the divorce.

"Whenever l told him that l was no longer interested in the marriage he would threaten me," she said.

Elizabeth told the court that her husband was a violent man.

"It’s true he is my husband your Honor. I do not want him to insult me.

"I fear living with him, if possible l will move from the house we are living in together until the process of divorce is finalised," she said.

Elizabeth told the court that the respondent had instilled so much fear in her that she was complying with any of his orders against her will.

In his response Shadreck said he had no problem if the court ruled in favour of his wife.

The court granted a peace order by consent of both parties.

The magistrate advised the applicant to engage a lawyer to assist her with technicalities until the divorce is finalised.
