The Zimbabwe Republic Police has announced a crackdown on vehicles lacking permanent registration plates.
National Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that vehicles without plates cannot be licensed or insured.
He expressed concern over unregistered vehicles being used in criminal activities, including armed robberies, and by illegal operators such as pirate taxis, which evade detection and violate traffic laws.
"The Zimbabwe Republic Police has intensified enforcements on all motor vehicles moving on the roads without permanent registration plates.
"To combat this, the ZRP is intensifying enforcement efforts. Any vehicle found on the road without permanent registration plates, including those with temporary plates from imports, will be impounded and will only be released once properly registered."
The Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act Chapter 13:14 requires that any acquired vehicle undergo a change of ownership and be licensed within two weeks
