Newly elected Association of Mine Surveyors Zimbabwe president Gabriel Mwale says the organisation is willing to work with the Zimbabwe School of Mines Survey Department to establish a world class Mine Surveying industry.

The Mimosa Mining based Mwale said if ZSM formally engages the association they can work together and that he is personally going to ensure that some of the challenges facing the school are addressed.

Mwale was responding to an appeal by the ZSM Survey Department Head of Department Linton Mapasure said the school has the vision to come up with world-class surveyors but faces a number of challenges, among them industrial attachment and equipment.

“For the purpose of training, we have been investing in modern technologies. However, the equipment for student-ratio is very low.

“We are therefore appealing to well-wishers to assist with equipment. We are also facing challenges for student attachment therefore we are also calling for companies to work with our students,” Mapasure said.

ZSM is based in Bulawayo, was established in 1926, has four academic divisions catering for over 600 students.

Zimbabwe’s mining industry is on a serious growth trajectory with Government aiming for a US$12 billion annual target.
