A 45-year-old man from Waterfalls, William Kabanya, has appeared in court facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm after being found drunk and asleep at a shabeen.
Kabanya was remanded in custody following his appearance at the Harare Magistrates' Courts.
According to the State, the incident occurred on October 7, 2024, around 15:30 hours, when Kabanya was discovered intoxicated and sleeping at the shebeen in Waterfalls, Harare. A revolver was found tucked in his waist belt.
Members of the public, noticing the weapon, teamed up to apprehend him. They recovered a .32 Long CTG revolver, bearing serial number 585974, and handed him over to the police at ZRP Southlea Park.
Upon interrogation, Kabanya was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the firearm.
Further investigations revealed that he was not the registered owner of the weapon.
The case is ongoing.
