In a season that will be etched in the annals of Zimbabwean football history, Nyasha Gurende, the 27-year-old defensive maestro, has redefined the standards of excellence in the Zimbabwe Premier League. With an astonishing 20 clean sheets in 35 games, Gurende has cemented his status as one of the finest defenders on Zimbabwean soil.

"This season was truly special," Gurende revealed in an exclusive interview with Zim Now Sports, his eyes gleaming with pride. "I dedicated myself to fitness and consistency, which paid dividends. The 20 clean sheets are a testament to the hard work and team effort."

Gurende's journey to stardom began in the humble, dusty fields of Tomlinson Depot, where he honed his skills as a young boy with an insatiable passion for football. His talent caught the eye of scouts, leading him to prestigious academies like:,Black Mambas FC Academy,DCAcad and New Life Academy

In 2019, Gurende made his professional debut with Chicken Inn, and since then, he has consistently impressed with his defensive prowess. His move to ZPC Kariba in 2023 proved to be a turning point, as he spearheaded a defensive line that was virtually impenetrable.

"My best game this season was undoubtedly against Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium," Gurende recalled, a smile spreading across his face. "The atmosphere was electric, and the draw felt like a victory

Gurende draws inspiration from two football greats: Teenage Hadebe, the renowned Warriors defender, and Marcelo Viera, the illustrious Brazilian fullback. "Hadebe's dedication and discipline inspire me, while Viera's skill and versatility are traits I aspire to emulate," he said.
