The successful conclusion of the Integrate Project marks a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s efforts to combat HIV, with over 150,000 men and boys benefiting from voluntary medical male circumcision under the initiative.

Hosted by Population Services International Zimbabwe, a celebratory event attended by key stakeholders, partners, and dignitaries highlighted the achievements of the project, which launched in November 2020. The initiative aimed to enhance access, quality, and safety in biomedical prevention through a locally owned and integrated approach.

Dr. Aspect Maunganidze, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Child Care, commended the project for its pivotal role in reducing HIV infections and improving health outcomes.

“This project has demonstrated the power of partnerships in addressing critical public health challenges. The shift to a locally driven model has set a precedent for sustaining and scaling up biomedical prevention in Zimbabwe,” said Dr. Maunganidze.

Despite numerous challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the project achieved remarkable milestones. One notable innovation was the introduction of the Shang Ring device, which improved the efficiency and quality of the circumcision process.

Dr. Maunganidze praised the team’s dedication and professionalism, saying, “Completing the project on time, even amidst a global pandemic, reflects the exceptional commitment of everyone involved.”

Beyond the numbers, the Integrate Project made a lasting impact on communities by improving access to health education and enhancing overall quality of life.

“The challenges we faced taught us resilience and adaptability. Moving forward, these lessons will help us confront other health challenges with renewed strength and commitment,” added Dr. Maunganidze.

Stakeholders emphasised that the legacy of the Integrate Project extends beyond its immediate achievements. It stands as a testament to what can be accomplished through innovation, collaboration, and a shared vision for a healthier Zimbabwe.
