President Emmerson Mnangagwa has emphasized the importance of resolving international disputes through peaceful means, as stipulated in the SADC Mutual Defence Pact and the United Nations Charter.
Speaking at the Joint Command and Staff Course Number 37 graduation ceremony at the Zimbabwe Staff College (ZSC) in Harare, the President stressed that enhancing regional and international peace, security, and justice is a collective duty.
"We have a duty to do so in a manner that regional and international peace, security and justice are enhanced," said President Mnangagwa. He also highlighted the need for Africa and the SADC region to develop multi-faceted strategies to end wars and conflicts on the continent.
President Mnangagwa reiterated the importance of the mantra "African solutions to African problems," emphasizing that countries must take responsibility for their own development and defense. He also underscored the significance of the defence forces in preventing the subversion of constitutional order and national sovereignties.
Furthermore, President Mnangagwa emphasized the need for the defence forces to enhance their disaster management capabilities, including streamlining humanitarian aid coordination. This, he said, would ensure a swift and effective response to natural disasters, both domestically and regionally.
