Zimbabwean hip-hop artist Voltz JT has earned seven nominations at the 2024 Zim Hip Hop Awards, further cementing his place as one of the country’s leading figures in the genre.
His album NOP Makoni is up for Best Album, alongside a strong field of contenders, including Holy Ten’s Risky Life 2, Zazise’s Storytellers of the Culture, Young Gemini’s Laliga, RayKaz’s Main Oan Pack, and R Peels’ God is My Therapist 2. Voltz JT’s recognition at this year’s awards highlights his undeniable talent, hard work, and influence in Zimbabwe's hip-hop scene.
The highly anticipated ceremony will take place on December 13, 2024 at the Royal Gate Gardens in Chisipite, Harare. This year’s event promises to be even more special, with the addition of categories spotlighting emerging talent and honouring contributions to the wider music industry.
Among the categories making waves this year is Best Newcomer, which showcases rising stars like Runna Rulez, Terry Tempo, and Mr Nyamz. These up-and-coming artists are part of the vibrant new wave of Zimbabwean hip-hop, gaining attention with their unique sounds and energetic performances.
For Voltz JT, the competition for Song of the Year will be tough, as he faces off against fellow nominee Holy Ten, whose track B'anga is also a fan favourite. Voltz JT’s hit “Mukoma Brian” continues to dominate airwaves, earning him yet another chance to shine on one of the biggest stages in Zimbabwean music.
The 2024 awards will also honour achievements in visual arts, with the Video of the Year category recognizing exceptional directors like those behind “Jerusalema” by Bagga and “Vakoma” by Scrip Mula featuring Holy Ten. These productions have set new standards for music videos in Zimbabwe, elevating the visual artistry in the hip-hop genre.
Beyond the music, the 2024 Zim Hip Hop Awards will acknowledge the broader impact of artists and industry players. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Take Fizzo, a pioneer who has played a crucial role in shaping Zimbabwe’s music industry.
Additionally, the Positive Social Impact Award will be given to figures like Jason Gwanzura and Voltz JT, who have used their platforms to advocate for change and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways.
With 27 categories in total, the 2024 Zim Hip Hop Awards are set to be a celebration of the diversity, creativity, and resilience of Zimbabwe’s hip-hop community. Voltz JT’s nominations for NOP Makoni and his influence in the genre are a testament to his artistry and dedication.
