Passenger Steals Car During Driver’s Brief Stop

Panashe Marashe,18,appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing charges of motor vehicle theft.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 15, 2024, when the complainant, Eventhough Bracho, 26, was driving his Honda Fit, registration number AEL4090, from Ushewokunze low-density area to Maoffice in Southley Park.

According to the State, Bracho picked up Marashe as a passenger along the way, and he occupied the front seat. When they reached Nice Day Bridge, Bracho stopped the car, leaving the engine running while he stepped out briefly.

It was during this moment that Marashe allegedly moved to the driver’s seat and sped off in the vehicle, which also contained Bracho's Huawei phone.

Bracho immediately reported the incident to the ZRP Southlea Park police. Nearly a month later, on November 21, detectives from CID Homicide Harare received information leading to Marashe's arrest at Dombo Secondary School in Epworth.
