The Zimbabwe Republic Police ( has issued a comprehensive safety advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant and law-abiding to ensure a secure and peaceful holiday period.
“As the public embarks on various activities during this festive period, families, business persons, and institutions should avoid carrying or keeping large sums of money at home or offices to curb robbery and other related violent criminal acts,” the ZRP stated.
The police highlighted their commitment to addressing drug and substance abuse, urging the public to report illicit activities. “The Police will also take action on those engaging in drug and substance abuse. On the other hand, the public should feel free to report anyone offering drugs and illicit substances to the youths and adults at any nearest Police Station,” read part of the statement.
Ahead of the New Year celebrations, the ZRP cautioned against the misuse of fireworks and similar devices, which could disrupt public safety and security.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores individuals, institutions, and business persons to adhere to the provisions of the law on the use of fireworks, firecrackers, and other gadgets which are likely to disturb the safety and security of the general populace.”
In light of increased road activity during the holidays, the ZRP announced road safety campaigns to promote compliance and reduce accidents. “The Zimbabwe Republic Police shall impound all defective and unroadworthy vehicles,” the statement warned.
Motorists were also urged to avoid risky behaviors such as overloading, speeding, and crossing flooded rivers during the rainy season. “I plead with the motoring public to exercise caution as some roads are slippery. Motorists and individuals should not attempt to cross flooded rivers and bridges to curb drowning incidents,” the police advised.
Public service vehicle operators, particularly those involved in cross-border travel, were advised to minimize night journeys due to increased risks. “Most fatal road traffic accidents are being recorded at night due to vision and observation challenges,” the ZRP noted.
The ZRP emphasized the importance of lawful trade, cautioning against smuggling and non-compliance at border points. “The law will take its course without fear or favor on transporters who are involved in smuggling activities and those using undesignated points along our borderlines to commit crime.”
In addition, the ZRP warned liquor outlets against violating the Liquor Act by operating outside stipulated hours or allowing minors access to alcohol.
“Some are even allowing minors to access alcohol through their facilities. May I buttress that arrests will be effected, and the law will certainly take its course.
The ZRP concluded by calling for community cooperation in reporting criminal acts and unsafe practices. “Fellow Zimbabweans, I encourage you to feel free to report any criminal acts, road traffic incidents, and public gatherings on the roads,” they urged.
