A cholera outbreak has gripped Mazowe District, Mashonaland Central Province, with 104 confirmed cases and one fatality reported since December 21, 2024.
Health and Child Care Deputy Minister, Sleiman Timios Kwidini, visited the affected area in Glendale on Tuesday to assess the situation.
To mitigate the spread, the Ministry of Health has administered 5,000 doses of the Oral Cholera Vaccine.
The outbreak has been linked to poor water management, including erratic water supplies, neglected burst sewer pipes, and reliance on water from shallow wells.
In response to the water crisis, the National AIDS Council has pledged to drill two boreholes in Glendale and install two 5,000-litre water tanks at the Mazowe Flowers Compound to help alleviate the shortages.
The situation calls for urgent action to prevent further spread and ensure access to clean water for the community.
