Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Makuti have arrested five suspects including the bus driver for smuggling goods.
According to the ZRP Twitter page, the suspects were arrested at the 289km peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road on Thursday.
The suspects were arrested following searches on the bus.
“On 24/11/22, members of the police deployed at a security roadblock at the 289km peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road, arrested Miriam Gakavaza (40), Judith Mubvunzi (35), Otilia Moyo (52) and Tawanda Muvingi (40) for smuggling four bales of assorted new clothing, 25 cases of 2 litre drink, 50 boxes of biscuits, 5 x 1 litre Glyforce and 5 x 1 Paragould.
“The goods were stashed in the bus in which the suspects were travelling on,” reads the statement.
According to the statement, the driver of the bus, Farai Kaseke (50) was arrested for failure to comply with the police’s instructions after he refused to drive the bus to ZRP Makuti for searches.
