Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Ngoni Nduna transferred Temba Mliswa's challenge over the holding of ZIFA elections to Harare, citing similarities with Walter Magaya's case. Both Mliswa and Magaya, aspiring ZIFA presidency candidates, are seeking a postponement of the elections scheduled for January 25.
At the heart of the matter lies the contentious ZIFA eligibility test, which both Mliswa and Magaya failed. Mliswa's lawyer, Musindo Hungwe, confirmed that his client's case has been transferred to Harare, where it will be heard alongside Magaya's case before High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi.
Mliswa is pushing for a fresh start, arguing that the entire process should be restarted from the crafting of constitutional amendments. He claims that the amendments were made by individuals whose mandate had expired, rendering the process flawed.
The ZIFA elections have been marred by controversy, with four high-profile candidates, including Mliswa and Magaya, being disqualified by the ethics committee. The candidates have cried foul, alleging a lack of transparency and fairness in the disqualification process.
