Zimbabwean man and woman arrested for possession of 7.9kg heroin at Mumbai airport

Two Zimbabweans (male and female) were arrested after being found with 7.9kg of heroin worth Rs50 crore (US$612 220) at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, India on Friday.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at the airport said they acted on intelligence and laid a trap at the airport on Friday.

“The team found some packets containing light brown powder concealed in their trolley bags, the powder tested positive for the presence of heroin and the contraband weighed 7.9kg,” said DRI officials.

The Zimbabwean man and women were travelling from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia when the DRI zonal unit intercepted their baggage.

“The accused were arrested under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and remanded to judicial custody by a special court,” said the officials.

The DRI is further investigating the matter to bust the drug syndicate involved in the case.
