The Zimbabwe National Water Authority has reinforced its stance against corruption by signing the Corporate Integrity Pledge at a ceremony held today at the Harare International Conference Centre on Friday.
The event, attended by dignitaries and stakeholders, was headlined by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission Chairperson Michael Reza, who hailed the pledge as a landmark step toward fostering transparency, accountability, and ethical governance in public institutions.
“As ZACC, we declared 2025 the Year of Integrity Action. Our mission is to systematically engage public institutions in collaborative strategies to strengthen integrity and prevent corruption,” Reza stated.
Reza emphasized ZINWA's critical role in managing the nation’s water resources, warning of the dire consequences corruption in the water sector could have on public health, economic prosperity, and societal well-being.
“When corruption infiltrates water management, it threatens more than just balance sheets. It jeopardizes the very essence of life itself,” he said, while identifying vulnerabilities in ZINWA’s procurement, quality control, revenue collection, and infrastructure development.
Reza highlighted the Corporate Integrity Pledge as a practical step toward transparency, noting its potential to rebuild public trust, attract investment, and foster partnerships.
“This pledge will strengthen public trust in ZINWA, showing citizens that their water authority operates with unwavering integrity. It will also attract investment and partnerships, as development partners and private entities prefer engaging with ethical institutions,” he said..
ZINWA Chief Executive Officer Engineer Taurai Maorukira reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to ethical conduct, promising transparency across all operations.
Reza concluded with a call to action, urging ZINWA to make integrity a standard practice and an example for other public institutions.
“Together, we can create a future where corruption has no place in public service,” he said.
