“I never looked back,” says Munyaradzi “Dan’a” Manyeza, a young man who has transformed his love for basketball into a journey of triumph and inspiration. Born in Hwange, Zimbabwe, and raised in a close-knit family in Bindura, Munyaradzi’s story is one of passion, resilience, and relentless determination.

“The game chose me,” he recalls with a smile, describing the moment his cousin introduced him to basketball—a sport that would shape his life in unimaginable ways.

Today, as he balances his studies in social work at the Women’s University in Harare with representing Zimbabwe in international basketball competitions, Munyaradzi is a beacon of hope for young athletes everywhere.

Growing up as the only boy in a family of four, Munyaradzi describes his parents and three sisters as his greatest supporters. “My parents have always encouraged me to pursue my passions,” he says.

His sisters, who have been his pillars of support, shaped his competitive spirit and helped him develop the resilience needed to face life’s challenges. Reflecting on their influence, he adds, “They taught me to put God before everything I do and have made sacrifices for me to be where I am.”

Munyaradzi’s basketball journey began with an innocent invitation. A cousin encouraged him to try the game, and from the moment he picked up the ball, he was hooked. At the time, he was an avid soccer player, but basketball quickly captured his heart. “From there, I started playing basketball and never looked back,” he shares. It wasn’t always easy—there were hurdles and moments of doubt—but his love for the sport kept him motivated.

Family and friends have been instrumental in Munyaradzi’s success. “Their support and encouragement have been my greatest inspiration,” he says. He also draws strength from basketball legends like LeBron James, whose dedication and passion fuel his own dreams.

Munyaradzi’s coaches, Russy and Brian, have also played a pivotal role in shaping him into the player he is today. “They pushed me to be better, and I’m grateful for their guidance,” he acknowledges.

One of the highlights of Munyaradzi’s career came in 2016 when he scored his first winning shot at the 20-and-under games at Evelyn High in Bulawayo. “It was an incredible feeling, knowing that all my hard work had finally paid off,” he recalls.

That moment, which he describes as a team effort, marked the beginning of a series of achievements, including gold medals at the CUCSA Games in Malawi (2022) and Pretoria (2024).

Despite his individual successes, Munyaradzi is just as passionate about the future of basketball in Zimbabwe.

“There is a growing interest in the sport, and we are seeing more young players emerging,” he says with optimism. He believes that with the right infrastructure, support, and investment, Zimbabwe has the potential to produce world-class players.

Munyaradzi is already playing his part in this vision by mentoring junior players at the Chipadze Primary Court, where he helps nurture young talent.

When he’s not on the court, Munyaradzi enjoys listening to music, watching movies, and playing handball. He treasures spending time with loved ones and giving back to the community. These activities provide balance in his life and remind him of the importance of staying grounded.

To young aspiring athletes, Munyaradzi offers words of wisdom drawn from his own journey: “Stay focused, work extra hard, and believe in yourself. Never give up on your dreams, and always prioritize your education and personal development alongside your athletic pursuits.”

Munyaradzi remains excited about representing Zimbabwe on the international stage. His vision extends beyond personal achievements, as he is determined to develop the next generation of players in Zimbabwe.

With his unwavering dedication and the support of his family, Munyaradzi Manyeza continues to inspire hope and ambition in young athletes across the nation.
