A Warpack Zimbabwe Sales and Merchandising Company employee has been arraigned for allegedly stealing over US$50 000 in company funds collected from clients.

Innocent Nyahodza, 42, appeared before Harare magistrate Isheunesu Matova facing theft charges. He was granted US$300 bail and is set to return to court on March 14, 2025.

The complainant, Warpack Zimbabwe, is represented by its sales manager Tanyanyiwa Ray Chamunorwa. The company distributes and represents major brands in dry groceries, detergents, pet food, and hygiene products.

According to prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, Nyahodza was responsible for securing customer orders, collecting payments, and remitting funds to Warpack Zimbabwe.

However, between January and February 2025, he allegedly diverted US$50,131.79 from several clients for personal use.

The money was collected from Munella Wholesale, which paid US$11,000, Flick Nik, which paid US$11,298, and Gudo Mart, which paid US$4,966.51. Other affected clients included LP Masanvu, which paid US$1,652.46, Makombe Wholesalers, which paid US$15,034.68, and Mighty Stores, which paid US$966.93. People’s Shop paid US$600.01, Veterinary Distributors paid US$3,309.35, and Boodschap paid US$1,304.78.

The theft was uncovered on February 13, when Munella Wholesale attempted to place an order for "Pain Eeze" and "Chicky Chilli" products. Warpack Zimbabwe informed the client of an outstanding US$11,000 balance, but the customer insisted the payment had already been made.

An internal investigation confirmed that Nyahodza had received the funds but failed to remit them. Further inquiries revealed similar discrepancies with other clients, leading to a total shortfall of US$50,131.79.

The matter was reported to the police, resulting in Nyahodza’s arrest. To date, none of the stolen funds have been recovered.
