Masvingo Hospital Staff Arrested Over Missing Blood Units

Zim Now Writer

Two staff members at Masvingo Provincial Hospital have been arrested and charged with theft after three units of blood, valued at US$750, went missing from the hospital’s blood bank.

Goodson Dzuwalinyenga, a 50-year-old laboratory scientist, and Tichaona Shindi, a 36-year-old technician, appeared before Masvingo magistrate Arafat Kozanayi, where they denied the allegations.

In their defense, the two argued that at least 12 other hospital employees had access to the blood bank.

The case came to light on January 28, 2025, when hospital authorities discovered the missing blood.

A report was made to the police, and investigations confirmed that three units had been taken without any recorded entries indicating who had removed them.

Further inquiries led to the arrest of Dzuwalinyenga and Shindi.
