Government has approved the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Amendment Bill, introducing stricter regulations aimed at curbing nepotism and conflicts of interest in the awarding of tenders.

Speaking during a post-Cabinet briefing on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere said the bill seeks to strengthen the existing Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act [Chapter 22:23] by explicitly barring employees and their relatives from participating in the procurement of disposed assets.

“This move promotes transparency, fairness, and accountability in public procurement while improving the ease of doing business,” said Minister Muswere.

The proposed amendments are intended to align with the country’s constitution and broader governance reforms. By closing loopholes that have historically enabled favoritism and undue influence, the government hopes to foster investor confidence, support Zimbabwe’s industrialization agenda, and restore public trust in procurement processes.

Authorities have also assured that the implementation of the new provisions will be closely monitored to ensure compliance and the efficient management of public resources.
