A Harare man has appeared in court after he allegedly robbed a pedestrian at knife-point and was apprehended by members of the public following a chase.

Thomas Jameson ,24, appeared before Harare magistrate Rufaro Pavanhu charged with robbery.

The complainant in the case is Harward Makombe.

According to the State, on April 3, 2025, Makombe was walking through the National Railways of Zimbabwe complex enroute to visit his uncle when he was accosted by Jameson and two accomplices who were seated along the railway line.

Jameson, armed with an okapi knife, allegedly threatened to stab Makombe and demanded his mobile phone. He then forcibly took a Huawei Honor 7 handset, valued at US$120, from the complainant’s pocket and fled the scene.

The complainant raised an alarm, prompting members of the public to give chase. Jameson was caught shortly after, but his accomplices—only identified as Tsano and Ishu—escaped with the stolen phone.

The total value of the stolen property is US$120, and nothing was recovered.
