Zimbabwe Cricket has secured a major financial boost following a US$50,000 sponsorship deal from leading financial services provider CABS.
The injection of funds is set to directly support the country’s five first-class provincial teams Eagles, Rhinos, Tuskers, Mountaineers, and Southern Rocks who compete in the Logan Cup, Pro50 Championship, and Domestic T20 Competition.
Unlike traditional sponsorship models, this partnership stands out for its direct-to-team funding approach, which enables the provincial sides to invest independently in crucial areas such as coaching, player welfare, and talent development.
ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing its significance in strengthening the sport’s domestic foundations. “We are grateful to CABS for coming on board as a valued partner in our domestic cricket journey. This kind of corporate support plays an important role in strengthening the game’s foundation and enabling long-term growth,” he said.
Makoni further highlighted the benefits this brings to the teams, including greater financial stability and the ability to build a stronger development pipeline for Zimbabwean cricket.
“For our provincial teams, it means greater stability and the ability to invest more consistently in key areas such as player welfare, coaching, and talent development factors that are essential to building a stronger pipeline for the future of Zimbabwean cricket.”
The inclusive nature of the funding model is also expected to expand cricket’s national footprint by opening up opportunities for communities that have traditionally been underrepresented in the sport.
CABS Managing Director Mehluli Mpofu underlined the broader impact of the sponsorship, describing it as a long-term investment in the potential of Zimbabwean youth. “This sponsorship is more than support for cricket, it is a commitment to the dreams of Zimbabwe’s young people,” he said. “Across the country, there are talented, passionate youths who see sport as a pathway to opportunity, purpose, and pride. At CABS, we recognise that potential. By investing in domestic cricket, we are answering their call, building platforms for growth and helping shape a future where every young Zimbabwean has a chance to shine.”
The financial model employed also promises improved governance and accountability, with clearer budgeting processes and enhanced transparency being key pillars of the agreement.
CABS’ involvement in cricket is not new. The institution has a long-standing relationship with the sport, dating back to 2004 when it first supported T20 competitions. Over the past 20 years, CABS has consistently backed cricket development initiatives across Zimbabwe, contributing to the discovery and nurturing of emerging talent nationwide.
