A private kombi carrying 16 family members, a tombstone, and bricks overturned along the Harare–Nyamapanda Road, killing seven people from the same family and injuring nine others.
Police say the overloaded vehicle overturned at the 49 km peg near Murewa after the driver lost control while dangerously overtaking. Five died instantly, while two more succumbed at the hospital.
But what left many shaken was not just the twisted metal and blood-soaked ground—it was the sight of a dead owl (zizi) lying at the crash scene.
The coincidence—a kombi packed with mourners, a tombstone for the dead, and a lifeless owl—has fuelled conspiracy theories and shivers across Zimbabwe.
