A Bulawayo man who decided to ply his vehicle break in career in Harare has appeared in court over charges of breaking into a car and stealing one US dollar.
Gift Derera, 24, of Bulawayo was summoned to the Harare Magistrates' Court to face two counts of theft, violating Section 113 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, 9:23.
The state alleges that on December 17, 2022, Wellington Madondo parked his vehicle at N Richards Wholesale, Msasa.
He locked his car and went into the wholesale shop.
Derera came out of a parked Toyota Wish and went to Madondo's car.
He used an unidentified object to unlock the car. He stole cash amounting to US$ 1 equivalent to ZLW$ 600.
CCTV footage showed the whole incident and led to Derera’s arrest.
In another incident, on November 20, 2022, Dadirai Mutsatsa parked along Blesmar Road near City Glass, Harare.
She locked her car and went into the shop. Derera allegedly broke the quarter glass of Mutsatsa's car and stole two suitcases containing clothing items, two HP Laptops, a new electric iron.
Detectives from CID TFC used the CCTV footage from the first case and other intelligence to link Derera to the vehicle break in and arrested him.
Magistrate Dennis Mangosi instructed Derera to appear in court today (Tuesday) for bail application.
