The Zimbabwe Media Commission announced yesterday the appointment of Godwin Phiri as its Executive Secretary with effect from January 1, 2023.

In a statement, ZMC said Phiri is taking over from Bvumayi Academy Chinamhora who was appointed the ZMC Acting Executive Secretary following the retirement of Dr Tafataona Mahoso on the 31 March, 2022.

ZMC said it is optimistic that the new Executive Secretary will help the organisation to achieve greater milestones in media services delivery and creating a conducive environment for all media stakeholders to do their work.

“Mr Phiri joins the commission at a time that the media sector is experiencing rapid growth underpinned by positive reforms designed to further democratise the media landscape in the country and allow the entry of new players both print and broadcast journalism under the second republic,” reads the statement.

ZMC noted that the media plays an important role in promoting national development and it was delighted to have such a young, enthusiastic professional with a creative mind joining them.

“He is expected to lead the transformation of ZMC so that the constitutional body can effectively deliver on its mandate and contribute towards the achievement of middle-income society by 2030.

“Mr Phiri brings a wealth of experience from the private sector, civil society and business consultancy,” reads the statement.

Prior to his appointment, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Fairtalk Communications.
