An elderly Mutare woman has appeared before magistrate Perseverance Makala, applying for a protection order against her young boyfriend, Gwinyai Kabhasikoro.
Gogo Renika Maoneni, who claimed Kabhasikoro was always threatening her, claimed that Kabhasikoro usually visits her house, insulting and harassing her after ending their relationship.
“I realised that our relationship was no sustainable and I sent him packing. I already have grandchildren. I have been spending a lot on him, but he is having many relationships with younger women,” said Gogo Maoneni.
She said Kabhasikoro comes to her house to harass her when he is drunk.
“My children had once welcomed him into the family, but now do not want to see him anywhere near our house. They want him out of my life for good, but he is refusing to go,” she said, adding that the problem started when he failed to give her money to attend her late father’s funeral, saying he was broke, only to return home to find him preparing a sumptuous meal.
“He did not even bother to accompany me to the funeral, saying he did not have any money.
“We have been dating since 2006, but he was more like a tick, sucking my blood. When I came back home from attending my late dad’s funeral, I found him busy preparing mouth-watering sausages,” Gogo Maoneni said.
Gogo Maoneni also said Kabhasikoro was now chasing after younger women of his age.
“He is now looking for younger and fresh girls to date. I do not mind that because I am now an old lady. He should move in with them. I am done with him. At my age, I do not even have a chicken to show as a possession,” Gogo Maoneni said.
Kabhasikoro, who claimed that he still loves Gogo Maoneni, did not dispute what she was saying, but said the constant fights only erupt when they are both drunk.
“All the fighting and harassing starts when we are drunk. We usually fail to control ourselves. We have been together for a very long time and I love her. Her children are the ones meddling in our affairs. They threatened me and asked me to move out of their late father’s house and I obliged,” said Kabhasikoro.
Magistrate Makala granted the protection order, valid for five years, barring Kabhasikoro from visiting Gogo Maoneni’s house to disturb her peace.
