Killer ex-CID officer evades arrest, abandons car flees on foot

The hunt for Jaison Muvhevhi, the killer ex-Criminal Investigations Department officer who killed three people in Wedza on Friday is still on and reports that he has been arrested are not true, police have said.

Police reportedly located him in the Chiduku area in Rusape yesterday and a shootout ensued.

It is alleged the exchange of fire was so intense that Muvhevhi abandoned his Toyota Allion car and fled into a nearby mountain on foot, leaving behind a gun in the vehicle.

Muvhevhi shot and killed an apostolic sect prophet before fatally shooting the Officer-in-Charge of Wedza Police Station and seriously injured another, who had come to attend to the scene.

The man reportedly drove to Mukamba Business Centre where he gunned down another man before driving off.

The injured officer is said to be in a critical condition and is battling for life at a local hospital.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the hunt for the suspect is ongoing.

“He is not yet arrested. The suspect fled and left his vehicle and a gun he had taken from the officers. He was located in Chiduku. It is not true that he has been arrested.”
