The Medical Imaging Centre Radiology Group, in partnership with the Zimbabwe Women Doctors Association, Cancer Care Network Zimbabwe, Miracle Missions, Rusty Markham and the Hatcliffe Community Committee is set to hold an outreach programme at the Hatcliffe Polyclinic Health Centre on January 28.
One of the outreach Coordinators Loretta Maunganidze said the outreach will also educate the community on the dangers of cervical cancer as the number one cancer among women in Sub-Saharan Africa in particular Zimbabwe.
“The initial session will be held at the onset of the program, targeting women from 18 years upwards.
“We strongly encourage men from the community to attend this presentation and to feel free to engage with the medical staff on the floor if they have any questions.
“This is to be followed by presentations covering regular testing, early detection, treatment options and information on vaccination,” she said.
The programme is aimed at bringing awareness of cervical cancer through screening, awareness material and informative skills.
The initiative will encompass creating awareness of cervical cancer, its symptoms at the various stages, testing facilities treatment options and the option of vaccination and offer treatment as well.
The MIC Radiology group will provide ultrasound equipment on site and perform necessary ultrasound scans, while ZWDA put together a team of doctors and staff to carry out the testing.
The outreach activities will be conducted by female professionals (volunteer doctors, medical students, nurses and administration support) who will work with local authorities and community health workers.
