TelOne FC Appoints Saul Chaminuka as Head Coach Following Maruwa Departure

TelOne FC have officially announced the appointment of Saul Chaminuka as their new head coach with immediate effect, following the departure of former coach Herbert Maruwa.

The club confirmed the leadership change as part of efforts to revive their struggling 2026  PSL campaign. Maruwa, who had guided the team through a period of steady progress in recent seasons, leaves after a difficult start to the current campaign that saw TelOne battling for consistency and results.

The club welcomed their new coach with optimism, saying, “Chaminuka joins the WiFi Boys with a wealth of experience and a proven track record of tactical excellence.” The club added that the change reflects a broader ambition, noting, “His appointment signals the club’s commitment to stabilizing our current campaign and building a competitive squad capable of challenging the elite.”

TelOne FC, based in Gweru and founded in 2016, has steadily built a reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s emerging football sides. After gaining promotion to the top flight in 2019, the club faced relegation but showed resilience by bouncing back through the Central Region Soccer League in 2023. Their return to the  top-flight League marked the beginning of a strong upward trajectory, finishing 10th in 2024 before achieving an impressive 5th-place finish in the 2025 season , their best performance to date.

That progress, however, has not carried into 2026. The WiFi Boys have struggled to replicate last season’s form, finding themselves near the lower end of the table after a string of draws and defeats in the opening matches. Despite reinforcing the squad ahead of the season, the team has lacked cutting edge in attack and consistency across the pitch.

Maruwa’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the club, as he had been instrumental in shaping TelOne’s recent identity and competitiveness. His exit, while disappointing for supporters, reflects the harsh realities of top-flight football where results often dictate decisions.

Chaminuka now takes over at a crucial moment, tasked with steadying the team and reigniting belief within the squad. With the season still in its early stages, there remains time for TelOne FC to turn things around and push away from relegation concerns.

The WiFi Boys will be hoping that the new man at the helm can quickly make his mark and restore the momentum that once made them one of the most promising sides in the Zimbabwean top flight.
