Yuna Yuna's Wait for Mnangagwa Continues

Four months after securing a US$150,000 sponsorship package, together with a team bus and two vehicles, Masvingo United  "Yuna Yuna", are yet to receive the full package promised by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The club continues to battle financial challenges, which have affected its efforts to regain top-flight football status. The sponsorship package was expected to ease the burden on the club, but most of it has not yet been delivered.

According to a source close to the club, Masvingo United allegedly sought advice from Kwekwe United on how to follow up on the sponsorship package.

"The money that was used to pay the players when they threatened to boycott the GreenFuel game was collected from the sponsorship deal after they asked Kwekwe United how the process is done," said the source.

However, Masvingo United spokesperson Omen Mafa dismissed the claims.

"That's not correct. We never asked or consulted Kwekwe United as alleged," said Mafa.

He, however, confirmed that the club has not yet received the remainder of the sponsorship package.

"We haven't received the remainder of the package, that is true," he said.

Mafa added that the club had been informed that the sponsorship package was still being processed.

"We are informed that the package is being processed and, as a club, we trust the process," he continued.

According to a report published by The Herald in March 2026, Minister Lovemore Matuke, Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira and Deputy Minister John Paradza managed to secure sponsorship for Masvingo United from President Mnangagwa for the 2026 season.

"We managed to secure US$150,000 sponsorship for Masvingo United FC from President Mnangagwa and also a team bus and two motor vehicles after we approached the Head of State and Government for assistance to alleviate funding challenges that were choking the city's most followed football franchise," Chadzamira told The Herald.

Meanwhile, Masvingo United have struggled to match the standards they displayed in 2025. After 13 matches, Yuna Yuna sit in seventh position in the Eastern Region Soccer League standings.
