Victoria Falls Town Clerk Ronnie Dube is in trouble for disregarding the powers of the council by awarding Jackelberry a 15-year lease worth US$20 075 when no allocation had been made.

This comes after an investigation undertaken by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works fingered Dube for a number of irregularities and corruption.

Dube was flagged for failing to have policies in place and for following his own practices in the allocation of council properties.

According to The Victoria Falls Mayor, councillor Somvelo Dlamini, Dube must be held accountable and culpable for writing to Jackelberry informing them that they had a 15-year lease.

“Mr Dube should pay the loan in full as the council was prejudiced of US$20 075. The Victoria Falls town clerk was also found guilty of presenting matters in full council without first presenting the matters to committees for deliberations, where the role of the executive is to carry out research and provide options for councillors to deliberate on before making recommendations or resolutions.

“The town clerk must be held culpable and accountable for allocating the Chinotimba Brewery to Jackelberry Investments without a council resolution and authority,” he said.

The Local Government Ministry has also ordered the Hwange District Coordination office to engage the Vic Falls Municipality to see to it that all processes are followed and that the complainants are given feedback.

Dube was allegedly locked out of his office by residents demanding that he be investigated for corruption.
