A 33-year-old Seke man appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court this week facing armed robbery charges after he and his alleged accomplices reportedly hijacked two passengers in a Honda Fit, robbed them of cell phones and a wallet at gunpoint, and dumped them in Alexander Park.
Samuel Nzima, 33, of Murisa Village, Chief Seke, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court charged with armed robbery.
Prosecutors allege that the incident occurred on April 8 at around 5.30pm.
The court heard that complainants Runesu Shumba and his son, Federal Shumba, boarded a Honda Fit at Market Square, which was allegedly being operated by Nzima and other men.
The vehicle was reportedly headed for Fourth Street Bus Terminus.
Upon reaching the terminus, other passengers disembarked, leaving the Shumbas in the vehicle as they waited to receive US$7 in change, the State alleged.
Instead of completing the trip, Nzima allegedly told the two men that the vehicle was now going to Borrowdale.
When the complainants said they were going home to Hatcliff, they were allegedly told to remain in the vehicle.

The court heard that shortly after passing Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, the driver deviated from the route and turned into Alexander Park.
Nzima allegedly produced an unidentified pistol and a screwdriver and threatened the passengers.
The accused and his alleged accomplices then demanded their cell phones.
Fearing for their lives, the complainants surrendered a Samsung A06, a Huawei P20 and a wallet containing an identity card.
After taking the items, the men allegedly dumped the Shumbas along Churchill Road before driving away.
Detectives from CID Homicide Harare later launched investigations.
The court heard that detectives tracked the stolen Samsung A06 and followed its chain of possession before arresting Nzima along Chiremba Road in Epworth on July 2, 2026.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Brian Mavinga, who allegedly implicated Nzima.
Nzima was subsequently arrested again along Seke Road, Harare, on July 17, 2026.
The matter was remanded for further proceedings.
