Mutare Man Jailed 2 Years for Drunk Driving

 

A Mutare man has been jailed for two years after he was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol along the Mutare-Chimanimani road.

Kasirai Masawi, 39, appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The court heard that on August 19, 2026, Masawi was driving a Toyota Hiace along the Mutare-Chimanimani road when police officers manning a checkpoint noticed his erratic driving.

He was allegedly driving in a manner that obstructed other road users, prompting officers to stop the vehicle.

Police subjected Masawi to a breathalyser test after suspecting that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

The court heard that the test showed his blood alcohol concentration was above the legal limit.

The breathalyser reading was presented as evidence in court.

Masawi was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison.
