Murambinda Town Board must speed up the upgrading of its sewer and waste management systems so that they match those of a town, Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has said.

Speaking at a tree planting and clean-up exercise in Murambinda last week, Muchinguri-Kashiri bemoaned the state of the sewer system at Murambinda.

“What we have seen is that we now have Murambinda Town Board, but the provision of basic services is still lagging behind. We have an increasing population, but some houses do not have sewer, and this poses a challenge to the environment and residents’ health.

“We need to remind the Town Board that town status comes with a responsibility. The responsibility is to ensure that service delivery matches the new status of a town,” said Muchinguri-Kashiri.

Murambinda was accorded city status last year, but service delivery is yet to match that status.
