Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri has met her Indian counterpart Shri Rajnath Sing in Bengaluru.
Minister Muchinguri is in India attending the 14th edition of Aero India 2023. 251 MoUs are expected to be inked at the largest air show in Asia. Tanzania’s Defence Minister Basungwa Innocent Lugha and Congo’s Minister of National Defence Charles Richard Mondjo were also part of the meeting.
"India is the 5th largest economy in the world. We hope to become 3rd largest economy in the next 5 years. Indian Defence manufacturing industry is one of the key drivers of our fast-growing economy.
“We aim to nurture a vibrant and world-class defence manufacturing industry in the country. To achieve this goal, our government has taken far-reaching reform measures in the last few years, aimed at creating a business-friendly environment," said Defence minister Rajnath Singh at Aero India 2023 CEO Roundtable Conclave in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Aero India is a biennial air show and aviation exhibition held in Bengaluru, India at the Yelahanka Air Force Station. It is organised by the Defence Exhibition Organisation, Ministry of Defence.
Running “The Runway to a Billion Opportunities”, the five-day show that kicked off this Monday, February 13, is focusing on Made-in-India defence products.
Models of India's futuristic indigenous aircraft including 5th Generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, LCA Mark2 and Naval Twin Engine Deck-based Fighter jet – all in different stages of development- are being showcased.
India and Zimbabwe have a long and cordial history dating back centuries. Then Indian prime minister Indra Gandhi attended Zimbabwe’s Independence ceremony in 1980 and cooperation between the two countries has grown stronger in the past few years with Indian private investment and loans playing a big part in reviving Zimbabwe’s economy.
A number of Zimbabwean defence forces have been trained under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme scholarships.
