Socialiate Felistus Murata, a.k.a Mai Titi, has been arraigned before the courts for failing to return US$10 000 which she borrowed claiming she intended to use it for her business venture.
Murata, 36, of White Hall, Marlbereign, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates' Court accused of fraud or, alternatively, violating Section 136 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9.23.
The state through Pardon Dziva alleges that in September 2022, Mai Titi told Rachel Mhuka that she needed US$10 000 for her business venture and would in turn give away her Mercedes Benz model vehicle as surety.
She told Mhuka that the car would belong to her in case she failed to pay back her debt by November 30, 2022.
Rachel gave her the money, but Mai Titi later retrieved the car from Mhuka stating that it was not hers.
She gave Mhuka another car, an Audi, but later took it from her, giving her, instead, an invalid passport as surety.
Mhuka realised that the passport was no longer valid which led Mai Titi to give Mhuka the Audi back.
Later, sometime in January 2023, ZRP Rhodesville officers went to Mhuka and took the Audi stating that it belonged to a car sale called Else Event Car Hire.
The state alleges that through all these acts, Mai Titi showed clear intention to dupe Mhuka who lost her US$10 000 from her.
Mangosi ordered Mai Titi, who was coming from home, to appear in court on April 20, 2023 for her routine remand.
